Analysis Of Magazine Cover (NME)

The second magazine cover that I am going to analyse is the NME magazine. Firstly the masthead is big and bold; like with many mastheads, this is to show the viewer what magazine it is. The masthead is also surrounded by a dark black shadow, again this gives the masthead effect and makes it stand out. The colour scheme of this cover is black, red and white (generally), this is shown in the masthead and is consistent throughout the cover (with other pieces of writing on the cover.) The colour red makes the magazine seem hot, or evil as does the black, this could send a message to the reader that there will be hot stories inside the magazine.

Next we move to the the main image on the cover. The two people involved; Alex Turner and Miles Kane have had a model shot, this is because they are posing and have been dressed pacifically for this cover. These two characters take up the majority of the cover, this shows that they are the main part of the magazine and the most important factor of getting the target market involved. Both these two are wearing black this contrasts with the pale background, again to make them stand out from the crowd. They are also kept in a constant layout because of a surrounding frame made from the quotes and phrases used by the magazine on the cover. This keeps the whole layout very tidy and professional. Additionally the masthead 'NME' is slightly hidden behind these two people, this is again to prove that they are the main interests of the magazine and that they want to get them across.
